On this last Saturday of March, I continue with a mish-mash of photos. I am sharing my yard birds, walks around the lake, on the fire roads and photos of our dog Miney.

1. Feb 21st, looking out my kitchen window I noticed this hawk sitting in a tree at the end of our driveway. Needless to say my yard birds all went into hiding.  I am guessing that it is a Red-shouldered Hawk. But, the Red-tailed Hawk is another common raptor seen in my neighborhood.

2. The hawk seems to have something in it's sight line, staring intently.

3. Feb 23rd, we took Miney on a walk to the Prettyboy reservoir to see the Eagle's nest.  We did not see the Eagles, I hope all is well with their nest.  We did see lots of Canada Geese and some Common Mergansers.

4. Miney always enjoys her walks, on this day we had a short car ride around to another section of the reservoir.

5. Lots of Canada Geese on the lake and on the far shore I see at least one Common Merganser, usually there we see lots of the Mergansers in this area.

6. Feb 25th, I took Miney on a shorter walk. Just up and down the street.  During my walks, I could hear the Hairy Woodpecker, American Robins and some crows.

7. A Facebook flashback from From 2015, 10 years ago. I would see many American Goldfinches in my yard and at the feeders.  I am missing them now because I no longer put out bird seed in feeders. This is a male starting to get his summer colors and black forehead.

8. Flashback Feb 2017, two Barred Owls sitting in a palm tree at my favorite birding spot Circle B in Florida.

Saturday's Critters # 588

Happy Spring everyone!  We are finally seeing our daffodils blooming and here and there we can see buds on the deciduous trees in our area.

Another mish-mash post of various images from February. Included are Miney the dog, my yard birds and I am now including a flashback photo of one of my many favorite birds from my archives.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. Feb 14th, Our Valentine's Day walk with Miney. We walked part, the fire road I call the Pine tree loop.

2. Feb 15th, a few of my back yard birds: the Dark-eyed Junco and the Northern Cardinals.

3. The Carolina Wren is another of my common back yard birds.

4. Feb 15th, Miney waiting patiently for something to happen. A walk or a treat?

5. Feb 16th, I am sharing various Miney images, she is a happy dog.

6. Feb 18th, this Northern Mockingbird is a bully. He/she chases any bird that land on my deck railing on the birdbath.  Other birds are lucky they can grab a suet nugget and fly off before the Mockingbird can chase it.  It will not chase off the squirrels that come and eat the food.

7. Did you know a group of ladybugs is known as a loveliness of ladybugs. Ladybugs are also called Ladybirds. The first I heard of the loveliness of ladybirds was in a book I read recently "All the Colors of the Dark" by Chris Whitaker.

8. Flashback from a Facebook memory and my archives Feb 2013,  a pretty female cardinal sitting on my bird feeder. Does she look like she is wearing lipstick?

Saturday's Critters # 587

These images are from early February. At this time our weather has been stuck in a cold and wet pattern. We seem to be getting days of low temperatures and more rain/sleet/snow every couple of days. I am looking forward to the time change on March 9 and to have some warmer temps.

1. Feb 9th, sharing some of my back yard birds, like the White-throated Sparrow.  They wait patiently for me to come outside and put out some nuggets for them to eat.

2. Below are the White-throated Sparrow and the Northern Mockingbird.

3. Feb 9th, Miney on her daily walk.

4. Feb 11th, our walk with Miney on the fire road to the front section of the Prettyboy reservoir.

5. Feb 11th, the White-throated Sparrow a winter bird in my area. I am seeing a lot of them, more than any other bird. It is strange, if they see me look out my kitchen door they fly to the deck railing to see if I am bringing out food for them.

6. Feb 12th, my yard birds included the Dark-eyed Junco, the Northern Mockingbird and the Blue Jays.

7. I caught the Blue Jay on the deck railing chowing down on some peanut suet nuggets.  Usually the Mockingbird chases them off.

8. An image from my Florida archives, Feb 2017.  I have a Anhinga posing, their eyes are colorful. The blue-green colors are vibrant during mating season.
